How do I know if Fold serves my address?Getting started
Drop your address in the homepage hero or on the signup page — we'll tell you within five seconds whether your block is covered. We're live across Greater LA (50+ neighborhoods, west side through Pasadena and the South Bay) and the San Francisco Bay Area (SF proper, Oakland, parts of the Peninsula). Expanding to 15+ cities by 2027.
What do I need to do for my first pickup?Getting started
For your first pickup only: use any kitchen-sized bag, throw everything in (we'll sort), empty pockets, and leave it at your door. Your driver will text 30 minutes before arrival. You don't need to be home. We'll leave you a reusable Fold bag for next time — see the
5-step checklist above.
What if I'm not home for pickup or delivery?Getting started
You don't need to be home for either. Leave the bag at your door, in your apartment lobby, or with your doorman. The "Leave at door" toggle is on by default in the app. For locked entries, drop the gate code or doorman name in the order notes — we'll figure it out.
How much does Fold cost?Pricing
Pay-as-you-go:

When am I charged?Pricing
For one-time pickups: we charge after we weigh and process your order — usually the day of return. For Fold Club plans: the membership fee is charged on your first pickup day each month. We never charge anything at signup, and you can cancel any time before that first pickup.
What's the order minimum?Pricing
$25 minimum on pay-as-you-go orders. If your bag comes in lighter than that ($24 of services), we round up to $25. Fold Club members have no minimum on any pickup — one bag, one shirt, eight bags, all at the same locked rates.
Is there a service fee?Pricing
$3.99 service fee on pay-as-you-go orders under $35 — orders $35+ are exempt. Fold Club members never pay a service fee, ever. We don't charge fuel surcharges, "premium service" fees, or weekend upcharges.
Should I tip my driver?Pricing
Tipping is appreciated but never expected — our drivers are full employees, not contractors, and they're paid above market rates. The app has a tip option on the order receipt. 100% of any tip goes to the driver.
How is wash & fold weight measured?Pricing
Every bag is weighed at our facility on a calibrated commercial scale, photographed, and the weight is shown on your itemized digital receipt. If something looks off, dispute it from the receipt — we'll re-weigh and refund within an hour.
What if I think I've been billed wrong?Pricing
Tap "Dispute" on any line of your digital receipt. Our care team will look at the weighing photo, garment count, and tier assignment, and respond inside an hour during business hours. We refund mistakes; we don't argue about them.
Do you charge sales tax?Pricing
Per California law, dry cleaning services are not subject to sales tax. Wash & fold (laundry services) is also exempt. The price you see on the receipt is the price on your card.
How is my laundry sorted?Wash & Fold
By hand, by trained staff. Whites, colors, and delicates go in separate machines — never bulk-washed. Pockets are checked. Stains are flagged for pre-treatment. If you want a specific item kept out of a machine wash entirely (silk, vintage, hand-wash labels), drop it in the order notes and we'll route it to Hang-Dry.
Can I request a specific detergent?Wash & Fold
Default is hypoallergenic free & clear (no fragrance, no dye). You can switch to lavender, citrus, or unscented in your account preferences — applies to every order until you change it. Need something specific (allergen-free brand, baby line)? Email

What water temperature do you wash in?Wash & Fold
Cold by default, medium dry. Cold preserves color, prevents shrinkage, and kills 95% of household bacteria with modern detergent. If you want warm or sanitize-hot for sheets/towels/workout gear, set it in your account preferences or drop a note in the order.
How do you fold my clothes?Wash & Fold
Closet-fit by default — sized for typical drawer/shelf depths. We smooth wrinkles before fold so items go back ready to wear. KonMari, military, or custom folding styles available — set it once in account preferences and it sticks.
What's Hang-Dry service?Wash & Fold
Delicate hand-wash with air-drying instead of machine drying — best for silk, activewear, technical fabrics, and anything you'd otherwise hand-wash at home. $4 PAYG / $2 Club per garment, on top of the standard wash & fold price. Tag items in the order notes or pre-set them as a preference.
How much fits in a Fold bag?Wash & Fold
A standard Fold bag holds about 22–23 lb of laundry — roughly a week's load for 2–3 people, or a queen sheet set with duvet cover and a few towels. Bags significantly over ~23 lb are processed as two bags ($89.98 for Club members) and we always text you before charging the second bag.
Are buttons and zippers checked before wash?Wash & Fold
Yes — every item gets a visual inspection at intake and again at pack-up. Loose buttons noted on the digital receipt. Items with broken zippers or torn seams flagged before wash so we don't make it worse. We don't repair as part of wash & fold but we'll route to dry-cleaning alterations if you ask.
What is PERC-free dry cleaning?Dry Cleaning
Perchloroethylene (PERC) is the toxic solvent traditional dry cleaners use. We don't — 100% of our partner cleaners use modern non-toxic alternatives (hydrocarbon, GreenEarth, professional wet cleaning). Better for your clothes, your skin, and the people doing the work.
How are stains handled?Dry Cleaning
Stains are pre-treated by hand at the partner facility before cleaning. Tough stains (wine, ink, oil, grease) get a second pass with specialty solvents. If something doesn't come out, we'll let you know on the receipt rather than charging for an unsuccessful clean.
Are missing buttons replaced?Dry Cleaning
If a button comes off in cleaning, we replace it free of charge. If a button was already missing or loose at intake, we note it on the receipt and replace it on request — most often free, sometimes with a small charge if it's a specialty button.
Do you do alterations?Dry Cleaning
Yes — hems, sleeve adjustments, button repair, simple tailoring. Quoted per item before we start the work. Drop the request in the order notes or text us a photo at

Do you handle wedding dresses or formal pieces?Dry Cleaning
Yes. Wedding gowns, gala dresses, vintage, suiting in unusual fabrics — all quoted per item before processing (typically $200–450 for wedding gowns including preservation). Fold Club members get a standing 20% off any specialty quote.
Why is dry cleaning tier-priced?Dry Cleaning
A linen blouse and a wool blazer take very different effort. Tier pricing is fair to both you and us. Four tiers — Light, Standard, Heavy, Specialty — with fixed prices per garment-type so you always know what next week's bill looks like. See the

Do you clean leather, suede, or shearling?Dry Cleaning
Smooth leather: yes, $45 PAYG / $36 Club. Suede & shearling: yes, but quoted per item ($65+) since the process is more involved. Same-day rush isn't available on leather/suede regardless of plan.
What is Fold Club?Fold Club
A monthly membership that switches your laundry from pay-as-you-go to flat rates:

How do I cancel Fold Club?Fold Club
From the app or by texting our care team — no contract, no commitment, no cancellation fee. Your plan stays active through the end of the billing month, then drops you back to pay-as-you-go pricing on subsequent pickups. You can also pause for travel without canceling.
Can I share Fold Club with my household?Fold Club
Yes. One membership covers everyone at the same address. Add household members in the app so they can schedule pickups, get text updates, and reschedule the locked weekly window — all on the same plan.
What if I don't use the plan one month?Fold Club
You can pause the plan in the app for any month — billing pauses with it. Up to 2 paused months per year. Beyond that, the membership keeps charging at the regular rate (the locked window, the priority care queue, and the standing tier prices stay reserved for you).
Can I switch plans later?Fold Club
Yes — upgrade or downgrade at any time from the app or by texting us. Switches take effect on your next billing cycle, and we prorate the difference if you upgrade mid-month so the math is always fair.
When does Fold Club start paying for itself?Fold Club
All-In Club ($29.99/mo) breaks even at roughly $90–$100/month of pay-as-you-go spend, including service fees and any same-day rush fees you'd otherwise pay. Most members hit that on their second pickup of the month. The

What pickup windows are available?Pickup & delivery
Three windows, Monday through Saturday: Morning (8–10 AM), Afternoon (12–3 PM), and Evening (6–9 PM). Window availability varies by neighborhood — your block might have all three, or just one or two. We show you what's available when you enter your address.
When will I get my clothes back?Pickup & delivery
Wash & fold: next-day for pay-as-you-go, same-day for Club members on bags picked up by 10 AM (back by evening). Dry cleaning: 2–3 days standard, same-day rush available on most Tier 1–3 garments dropped by 9 AM (free for Club members, +$10 PAYG). Tier 4 specialty items run on standard timing regardless of plan.
Do you operate on weekends and holidays?Pickup & delivery
Saturday: yes, all three windows, no surcharge. Sunday: limited windows in some neighborhoods. Major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Independence Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day): closed; we'll proactively reschedule any pickup that lands on those days.
Can I change my pickup window?Pickup & delivery
Yes — up to 3 hours before the start of your window. Change it in the app or text the office. After that 3-hour cutoff, we may not be able to reroute the driver, but we'll do our best. If you miss your window entirely, the next pickup is on us — re-pickup is free for Club members and $5 for PAYG.
I live in an apartment with a doorman / locked entry — does that work?Pickup & delivery
Yes. Drop the gate code, doorman name, or lobby instructions in the order notes the first time — we'll save them to your address profile so you don't have to repeat it. We're active in 30+ luxury residential buildings across LA & SF, including some that have Fold as a building amenity.
An item is missing — what do I do?Issues
Text us at
(866) 411-6254 or open a ticket from the order receipt. We'll check the bag scans (we photograph at intake) and the facility floor, and respond inside an hour during business hours. If the item is genuinely lost, we replace at fair market value — no arguments.
Something was damaged. What now?Issues
Send us photos within 5 days of receiving the order. If we damaged it, we'll repair, replace, or refund the cost — at fair market value, capped at 10× the cleaning charge for that item per industry standard. Pre-existing damage noted on the receipt at intake isn't covered, but we'll always ask before assuming it was pre-existing.
How does the re-clean guarantee work?Issues
If you're not happy with the cleaning of any item, we re-clean it free of charge — no questions, no support tickets. Text us, hand the item back to the driver, or schedule a re-pickup. Club members get a 24-hour re-clean turnaround target; PAYG goes through the standard re-clean flow (still free, just slightly slower at peak times).
How quickly do you respond to issues?Issues
During business hours (7 AM – 9 PM PT, 7 days/week): inside an hour. Off hours: first thing the next morning. Texts and emails go to a real human — no chatbots, no support ticket queue, no escalation paths. Club members get bumped to the front of the recovery queue.
I got someone else's order.Issues
Rare, but it happens. Text us with your order number and we'll dispatch the driver to swap immediately. We'll also re-clean any item you might have touched, on us. The other customer will hear from us at the same time.
I forgot my password.Account
Use "Forgot password" on the
login page — we send a reset link to your email within seconds. Still stuck? Text us with the email on file and we'll send you a magic-link login.
Where can I see past orders and receipts?Account
Log in to
foldlaundry.com/app — every order, every receipt, every item photo, every weighing photo, downloadable as PDF. We keep your full order history indefinitely.
How do I update my address?Account
In the app or dashboard, go to Account → Addresses → Add or Edit. You can have multiple addresses on file (home, office, parents) and pick which one each pickup goes to. Moving outside our service area? Email us — we'll let you know if we cover the new spot, or capture you for the launch list if not.
How do I add or update a payment method?Account
Account → Payment in the app or dashboard. We accept all major credit cards, debit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. Card info is tokenized through Stripe — we never see or store the full number.
Do I get an itemized receipt?Account
Yes — every order. Photo of each garment at intake, weight on a calibrated scale, line-by-line price breakdown, and any add-ons or fees. Downloadable as PDF, shareable, useful for expense reports.
Can I turn off the texts?Account
Yes, but the 30-minute pickup heads-up text is on by default for everyone — you can downgrade to email-only in account preferences. Marketing texts (promo, launch announcements) are opt-in and one-tap unsubscribe.
